All businesses need to constantly make changes so that they are using resources sustainably and more effectively. As consumers continue to learn about the climate change and the impact it has on the environment, they are more likely to change their shopping habits to supporting business that “Go Green”.
To avoid losing customers, I have listed some tips that could help you and encourage your business to be more sustainable.
As more work can be completed online there is not a massive need for working from an office anymore. Since Covid plenty of businesses have learned that remote working is possible.
Allowing your employees to work from home decreases the time and money they spend on traveling to the office and back home. This saves large amounts of carbon emissions as there are fewer cars on the road.
If a physical office is needed for your employees, coworking spaces like @Work coworking office space are always an option. They may require less travel time and companies will end up saving money on water and electricity used to power one office.
If your employees are encouraged to use public transport this could increase the likelihood of them using it. This helps to decrease carbon emissions and all in all can reduce carbon footprint.
If you are a business that needs to buy products in order for the business to work well, you can switch over to a more sustainable option.
This can be done by making sure packaging of products is eco-friendly, reusable, and not toxic for the environment. Products that have been made from recycled material help to decrease overall waste.
The famous 3 R’s that every business should be following. Companies should start by reducing the amount of waste they contribute towards. This includes buying less single use plastics and going for products with biodegradable packaging or ordering in bulk to reduce the amount of packaging needed.
The next thing that could be useful is reusing waste such as giving purpose to things you might have thrown away before. You can use cardboard boxes from products to store other things or encourage your employees to print on both sides of paper to reduce waste.
Recycling should be the very last option if all else fails. Make sure to keep plastic separate from other waste when you dispose it.
If your business has to do with making or serving food, it would be helpful to create a compost bin to reduce the food waste going to landfill sights. In our coworking space we reuse the coffee beans for the garden at home.
For businesses who do a lot of shipping and packing, sustainable packaging can help reduce waste. Cardboard is a useful sustainable packaging option rather than plastic. It is more compostable and can be reused.
Switching the light bulbs in the office to energy saving lightbulbs or finding a way to use renewable energy to power your office (such as solar power).
